As the weather heats up and afternoon thunderstorms roll in, pool maintenance and upkeep tends to take on a new meaning. Chemicals are leached out of your pool due to three common summertime conditions:

  1. Rainfall
  2. Hot weather
  3. Swimmer load

All three conditions require you to watch the chlorine level in your pool and regulate it weekly.

If you manually feed chlorine into your pool, keep your chlorinator full of TriChlor tablets and be sure to shock every 4-5 days to stay ahead of the game. It would not hurt to run your pump at least 15 hours daily to insure your water is properly filtered.

If your pool has the Chlormatic Salt Generator, you should turn the percentage up to 50-75% (based on your pool size and usage) and be prepared to shock with liquid chlorine if needed. The use of Premium III as a maintenance algaecide really helps keep your pool looking fresh and clear.

To ensure your pool will stay crystal clear and to extend the life of your sanitizers, we recommend you use conditioner and stabilizer along with the proper levels of calcium, pH control, and total alkalinity powder. Keeping your pool chemicals balanced will save you money and add to the overall enjoyment of your swimming pool.

We recommend a complete water analysis, done by one of our associates, on a regular basis during the swimming months to check important factors in water clarity and comfort. Our seven retail stores are conveniently located and are easily accessible for you.

Our Premium pool chemical program achieves optimum results by using a time tested three stage program in conjunction with balancing agents for a clear, clean and enjoyable swimming pool.

Using the Pensacola Pools Premium System, you should have consistently clear water. However, for various reasons, there may be times when you may experience one of the following conditions:

Cloudy Water

This may be caused by any of the following problems:

  1. Check the filtration system. Do you have enough pressure? How often do you run the pump (minimum of 12 hrs. is recommended)? Make sure there is DE or enough sand in the filter. Also, be sure the filter is clean. If dirty, use Pensacola Pools Filter Cleaner to clean cartridges or grids. If the filter is clean and working properly, run 24 hours a day until water clears up. Using Pensacola Pools Ultra Blue Water Polisher will help do the job much faster.
  2. Check the pH of the water. High pH will cause cloudiness and can be corrected by adding Pensacola Pools pH Reducer.
  3. Check the chlorine or bromine level. If too low, shock the pool with Pensacola Pools Premium II.

Green Algae

This is the most common form of algae in swimming pools. This alga usually appears in areas of little circulation. Use Pensacola Pools Premium III to kill the algae.

Mustard Algae

This algae is yellowish brown in color. It will brush off the walls easily but is difficult to eliminate. Use Pensacola Pools Mustard Free.

Black Algae

This may be one of the most stubborn algae to eliminate. It will cling to walls and floor and looks like dark spots. Use Super 90 or Blacktrine.

The best way to stop algae is to prevent it from forming in the first place. By following the Pensacola Pools Premium System along with proper filtration, algae will not be a problem. However, the most effective steps to rid your pool of algae are:

  1. Brush walls and floor.
  2. Adjust pH.
  3. Shock with Pensacola Pools Premium II, liquid or granular.
  4. Use the proper algaecide listed above.
  5. Always use Pensacola Pools Premium III, a maintenance algaecide, weekly to prevent algae. A maintenance dose of three ounces per 10,000 gallons of water is recommended.

Summer is a good time to do a routine check-up and get your spa in peak condition.

Replace the water and do a general overall clean up.

Before running water into the spa, flush the hose onto your lawn or flowerbeds for three to five minutes to clear out any contaminates.

Always feed the hose into the filter compartment when filling your spa. This will reduce air bubbles in the heater line, which can cause your heater to trip off when you're trying to restart it after refilling.

Check your filters…they are the lifeblood of your spa. Weekly, you should spray the filters with Spray and Rinse, let sit for 20 minutes or so, and thoroughly rinse off. This will dissolve body oils, which are more prevalent during the hotter months.

Always maintain good levels of chlorine in the spa, even if you have an ozone purification system. If you do have an ozonator, you may cut your chlorine use in half, but it still needs to be checked weekly to ensure clear and sanitized water.
